Warming weather has us thinking ahead to fruit fly control. Janet’s neighbour swears by Margaret Sirl’s recipe which makes use of some rather unexpected ingredients –
Combine 1 litre water, 1 cup urine, 1 cup brown sugar, 1 tablespoon yeast, and 1 tablespoon vegemite. Let the brew stand for 5 days before using. Place 25 ml in each trap, using repurposed plastic soft drink bottles with pencil sized holes as the ‘front door’. Hang in the tree for 1 week before replacing.
